Garbo wants DPWH to put up foot bridges, pedestrian lanes in Mabalacat

Mabalacat City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo, recognizing the importance of road safety, earlier requested the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to put up adequate pedestrian lanes and foot bridges along major roads.

Mayor Garbo said this will address the issue of road accidents in the city to ensure the safety and well-being of commuters and motorists.

He has instructed city administrator Franco Alejo Madlangbayan to closely coordinate with the DPWH about the request.

Matagal ng nagrequest ang ating LGU ng mga foot bridges at pedestrian lanes mula sa DPWH, sana mabigyan kaagad ito ng pansin,” Garbo said.

As part of the mayor’s directive, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office was tasked to identify accident-prone areas so that DPWH can put traffic warning signages and adequate street lights along main thoroughfares. These measures are aimed at improving the visibility of drivers and pedestrians, especially during nighttime or low light conditions.

“By providing clear and visible signages and lighting, the risk of road accidents can be reduced, and the safety of pedestrians and motorists can be improved,” Garbo said.

If matatagalan pa ang request natin sa ahensiya para sa pagpapalagay ng mga pedestrian lanes, kahit tayo na lang mismo ang gumawa kung papayagan tayo,” MCG added.

In addition, MCG has extended his sincere condolences to the family of the pedestrian victim in barangay Dau, who was involved in a recent road accident. Garbo also directed the city administrator to provide necessary support to the victim’s family.

The mayor’s sincere action on this matter shows the city’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens and promoting responsible road use. By addressing the identified accident-prone areas and providing proper safety measures, the city can work towards improving the overall safety of its roads.
