Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda is the new team manager of Converge FiberXers, according to Philippine Basketball Association Team Governor Atty. Chito Salud.
“It is with great excitement and anticipation that I wish to announce today the appointment of two key team officials who will help Converge FiberXers carry on with its mission of winning PBA Championships in the years to come,” Salud said in a statement.
The team also has a new assistant manager, Franzl Jacob Lao, a former basketball player.
Better known to many as “Delta”, the Governor’s track record in government service speaks for itself, Salud, who is also EVP and Head of Government Relations and Sports Affairs of Converge, said.
“But Delta’s abiding love, commitment and passion for the sport of basketball ranks high up among those I have come across in this beloved sports of ours,” Salud noted.
The PBA Governor said that at a young age of 48, Gov Delta has already been a team coach, a team manager as well as Founder of the Pineda Basketball Training Camp, a testimony to his deep and long involvement in our country for the development of basketball.
“His long term association and shared passion for basketball with no less than our CEO Dennis Anthony H. Uy, will bring to the team that extra special attention, laser focus and long term strategic thinking championship teams are made of,” Salud said.
Meanwhile, Lao played in the high school team of La Salle and Ateneo Team A in college. At an even younger age of 22, Lao brings to the FiberXers’ quest for PBA Championships the elements of youth, dynamism and managerial skills on top of his equally passionate love for basketball, Salud added.
“As a manager in the Fj group which is involved in both restaurant and resort property businesses – some of which we all surely recognize such as Gloria maris and Choi garden – Lao is well attuned to an organization’s need for constant reinvention, for innovation and serving a unique dish of basketball play in order to thrive and win amidst tough competition,” Salud said.
According to Salud, Pineda and Jacob will assume their respective positions starting this coming Third Conference of the PBA’s 47th season.
