Gov Delta vows to bring Capitol closer to barangays on 2nd term

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda vowed to bring the provincial government closer to the barangays, as he took his oath as re-elected governor of the province.

“With your trust in my leadership, I promise to bring the Capitol closer to the barangays,” he said, adding that his 10-point agenda in his first term as governor is almost accomplished, with the help of his fellow officials and stakeholders.

Pineda’s 10-point agenda focused on reinventing the structures of the provincial government; expansion of health services and facilities; expansion of educational assistance and academic programs; improvement of peace and order situation; generation of employment and welfare protection for the labor force; strengthening of the province’s disaster resilience, adaptive capacity, climate change mitigation efforts and environmental management system; boosting of agriculture and livestock sector; enhancement of social services for vulnerable and sectoral groups; enhancement of infrastructure and facilities; and the implementation of the Pampanga Megalopolis Plan.

“I was able to do this because of the joint action of Vice Governor Nanay, the entire Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Provincial Administrator Attorney Charlie Chua, Special Assistant to the Governor Angelina Blanco, department heads and Capitol staff,” he added in his statement.

The governor said for his second term, his administration will provide adequate funding and services to Agriculture and Health programs.

“I hope that we have enough food supplies at affordable prices, and that the livelihood of food producers improve. We will strengthen our relationship and cooperation with the business and labor sectors for rapid economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Pineda furthered the national agencies will have more devolved services due to the decision of the Supreme Court in the Mandanas-Garcia cases that local governments will not only receive internal revenue allotment but also a share in the entire national income.

“We will also strengthen people’s ability to recover from disasters. We will continue to support senior citizens, PWDs, solo parents, indigenous people as well as coastal barangays. We will expand our food aid,” he continued.

The governor officially took his oath before Vice Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda.

“I chose to administer my oath of office as a public official. I believe that my mother laid the foundation of a government that values the poor more. Nanay is the example I follow,” he stressed.
