The municipality of Guagua has joined the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program to promote convenient and safer cashless transactions in public markets, public utility vehicles, and business establishments.

Former President and now Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) North Luzon Regional Office Director Noel Neil Q. Malimban and Guagua Mayor Anthony Joseph S. Torres led the launching program on June 14, 2024 at the Guagua National College.

The former President expressed her commitment to support Paleng-QR Ph Plus.

Sisikapin natin na mapalaganap ito sa iba’t-ibang transaksyon at sa iba’t-ibang bayan. Dalhin natin ang ating mga maliliit na negosyo sa age of digitalization,” she said.

BSP Director Malimban cited that the use of QR Ph eliminates the need for loose change, prevents currency counterfeiting, and reduces the risk of virus transmission. He added that the BSP will support the municipality of Guagua with financial literacy programs.

Mayor Torres called for strong onboarding to the program.

Ako po’y lumalapit sa ating mga market vendors, mga kapitan at barangay officials, let us encourage establishments, kahit sari-sari stores to participate in Paleng-QR Ph Plus,” he said.

Paleng-QR Ph Plus is a joint program of the BSP and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to promote e-payments by using QR Ph, the national standard for quick response or QR codes. It is a priority initiative under the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2022-2028.

Financial inclusion programs give people access to financial services that can help improve lives.

The BSP, in partnership with Guagua Rural Bank, Inc., also conducted the “Piso Caravan” to enable the residents to exchange their unfit banknotes and coins with fit currency. The caravan is part of the BSP’s broader efforts to strengthen its Clean Note Policy and Coin Recirculation Program.
