The Pagkakaisa ng Kababaihan Para sa Kalayaan (KAISA KA) is strongly calling for the immediate passage of the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Bill currently pending in the Philippine Senate.
As a pro-women federation, KAISA KA believes that this bill is a crucial step in addressing one of the most pressing social emergencies in our country—the high rate of teenage pregnancy, which continues to jeopardize the lives, future, and dignity of thousands of Filipino girls.
At the heart of KAISA KA’s advocacy is the belief that every woman and girl has the right to control her body and make informed choices about her health and future.
They said the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Bill ensures that adolescent girls receive comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education (SRHE), giving them the knowledge they need to understand their bodies, protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, and make responsible decisions.
“We believe this is key to empowering the next generation of women to break free from the cycle of poverty, early motherhood, and gender-based discrimination,” they said in a statement.
KAISA KA said it has always fought for the equality and dignity of women, and this bill supports that fight by addressing the root causes of adolescent pregnancy, which disproportionately affect young girls.
“The lack of access to reproductive health services and education has long undermined the potential of women in our society, trapping them in early motherhood and limiting their opportunities for education and personal growth. By supporting this bill, we ensure that young women have the tools and resources they need to pursue their dreams and contribute to society on their own terms,” the group said.
According to KAISA KA, teenage pregnancy is not just an individual issue—it is a systemic problem rooted in poverty, inequality, and gender-based violence.
The bill, they said, introduces stronger protections against child marriage, sexual abuse, and exploitation—issues that KAISA KA has continuously fought against.
“Early pregnancy is often the result of coercion, lack of education, and limited economic opportunities. By enacting this bill, we take a strong stand against the societal structures that enable these injustices and ensure that adolescent girls are safeguarded from abuse and exploitation,” they said.
As advocates for women’s rights, KAISA KA recognizes that young mothers must not be abandoned by society. This bill provides much-needed social support, education, and healthcare for adolescent mothers, ensuring they have a second chance to rebuild their lives and future, they said.
“No girl should be left behind due to early pregnancy, and this bill affirms that commitment by protecting their access to education and financial support,” the group added.
KAISA KA is urging the Philippine Senate to prioritize the passage of the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Bill without delay.
“This is not just a health issue; it is an issue of human rights, women’s rights, and social justice. The passage of this bill will mark a significant victory for gender equality, the protection of young women, and the creation of a society that truly values the potential and dignity of all its citizens,” they said.
They added: “We stand united with every Filipino girl, and we will continue to fight for their right to live free from the chains of early pregnancy and gender-based oppression.”
“Together, let us support this bill and move closer to a future where every girl has the chance to thrive, lead, and fulfill her dreams,” they ended the statement.
