MAGALANG, Pampanga — This municipality led by Mayor Maria Lourdes “Malu” Paras Lacson and two private firms recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to make the upcoming events here more merrier and brighter.
On behalf of Magalang, tourism officer Ryan Miranda and Firefly Philippines represented by Jay Pineda and Michael Uy of Royu signed the agreement to provide special prices and discounts to the lights needed for the Lubenas Festival held during December. The signing was witnessed by Lacson.
Lubenas is a tradition of carrying handheld lanterns for religious procession during the nine-day Christmas Masses beginning on December 16. The revival of Lubenas under Lacson won Magalang a cultural heritage award from the office of the President in 2018.
Pineda, Firefly’s assistant trade marketing manager (lighting category), disclosed that they will light up for free the historic Magalang municipal hall this year.
In 2015, the National Museum of the Philippines declared the Magalang Municipal Hall as an Important Cultural Property.
“The lighting of the municipal hall is to celebrate its 100 years of existence,” said Miranda.
Pineda said they will use about 20 to 30 light bulbs for the municipal hall. Royu, sister company of Firefly, will provide the electric connections for the lighting project.
