Newly-appointed Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio said that he is taking on the job following the inspiration drawn by the nation’s sports potential.
“I have been inspired by the sheer potential in Philippine sports—to build and to strengthen this proud nation,” Gregorio said in a text message to PNN.
He also thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for entrusting him the direction of the national sports program under PSC.
“It is my honor and privilege to serve as the Chair of the Philippine Sports Commission. I am grateful for the President’s trust and will do right by it,” he said. “Let my leadership inspire as I have been inspired by the sheer potential in Philippine sports—to build and to strengthen this proud nation. Karangalan ko ang magsilbi sa bayan at sa mga atleta ng bayan.”
Gregorio will replace Richard Bachmann who served as PSC Head since 2022. His appointment comes at the heels of successful two gold medal finishes of the Philippines in the Paris Olympics where he was co-chef de mission.
It also comes at a time when the Philippines is eyeing to send for the first time a cyclist in the Tour De France following the successful revival of Tour of Luzon under his leadership.
