CLARK FREEPORT — Businessman Rene Romero is set to submit a proposal to the Regional Development Council 3 (RDC-3) to consider a salary increase for workers from P450 to P1,000 a day to spur the economic stability of the country.

This he said during the January edition of the Pampanga Press Club’s KapiHann at Swissotel in Clark.

Romero said in order to address food security and growing inflation, and to have good gross domestic product, there should be an increase in the wage of workers to up to P1,000 a day.

“As a businessman, I feel guilty for our workers earning P450 a day. I think the government should look into this proposal in a way this will boost our economic stability once our workers have enough funding  to spend with,” Romero, a businessman for almost 50 years, said.

He said giving workers a wage hike would strengthen their spending power.

“I hope the government will be able to think this [through]. I am not an economist and am not a technical person as well, but government should consider the welfare of our workers which later could help boost our economy,” he added.

Meanwhile, Romero said businesses need to adjust and become resilient in the coming year, like in the first two years of the pandemic.

Private and government spending, he furthered, would greatly help ease economic woes.

Romero stressed that he will back any proposal to increase workers’ salaries, especially in the regions.

Romero is the owner of The Romac Group, the biggest janitorial services in Central Luzon which has close to 10,000 employees both in the region and in the Visayas area.
