Pampanga Press Club condemns killing of veteran commentator Percy Lapid

The Pampanga Press Club said it strongly condemns the senseless killing of veteran radio commentator Percival Mabasa, popularly known as Percy Lapid, who was shot dead in Las Piñas City on Oct. 3.

“Such dastardly act should have no place in today’s democratic society, as members of media will not be deterred in pursuing truth and justice for all,” the PPC said in a statement.

Extending its sincerest condolences to the bereaved family, the PPC said the killing of Percy reminds the group of the death of its very own Jesus “Jess” Malabanan, who was shot in the vicinity of his home in Samar on Dec. 8, 2021.

Although a warrant of arrest has been issued several months ago against the suspect/s behind Mr. Malabanan’s death, the PPC said the police have yet to make any arrest.

“We are thus calling on the Philippine National Police, the Presidential Task Force on Media Security and other authorities to renew and intensify action that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of these cowardly acts in the interest of justice,” it said.
