Pineda’s rejection as Converge FiberXers governor sparks reactions from kabalens

The rejection of the appointment of Pampanga Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda as the team governor of Converge FiberXers has sparked various reactions from netizens and his kabalens, saying this casts doubts on Pineda’s love for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Converge FiberXers earlier bared plans for Pineda to serve as team governor, with former PBA Commissioner Atty. Chito Salud as “alternate governor”.

Salud told Pampanga News Now that FiberXers owner Dennis Anthony Uy wants Pineda to be governor, thinking “it’s best for the team at this time”.

However, Pineda reportedly did not get a majority vote from the PBA board of governors, which is needed for appointments of such matters.

Netizens were quick to react to the news, asking if political reasons are behind the rejection. They also pointed out that Pineda was the first one to host the PBA Bubble when rules against COVID-19 were eased.

Why was Pampanga Governor Delta refused as Converge governor? Mikey Romero, inayawan ninyo rin as governor? Bakit? Ano policies? Ano mga standards ninyo? Do you doubt Governor Delta’s love for the PBA? He was the first one to host the PBA Bubble when rules against COVID-19 were eased,” one netizen commented.

“Are they serious? Do they realize that they are turning down somebody who has been immensely contributing to basketball? With that, they are sending a message that says ‘di namin sya gusto’. Hello, paki eksplika naman PBA,” another netizen said.

PBA is really a joke sometimes,” one netizen said.

Pineda was earlier appointed as the team manager of the FiberXers, citing his abiding love, commitment and passion for the sport of basketball.

At the young age of 48, Pineda has already been a team coach, a team manager as well as Founder of the Pineda Basketball Training Camp, a testimony to his deep and long involvement in our country for the development of basketball.

Pineda is a known molder of aspiring basketball talents. His wards, including Arwind Santos, Calvin Abueva and Ian Sanggalang, all play for PBA.

Had had also thrown extensive support to the league during the bubble seasons of PBA in Clark and Bacolor at the height of the pandemic.

“His long term association and shared passion for basketball with no less than our CEO Dennis Anthony H. Uy, will bring to the team that extra special attention, laser focus and long term strategic thinking championship teams are made of,” Salud earlier said.
