PNP Chief inspects firecrackers stalls in Bulacan

CAMP OLIVAS — Days away before the New Year revelry, PNP Chief PGen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. led the inspection of stores and stalls selling firecrackers in Bocaue, Bulacan on Friday, December 29.

He was assisted by PMGen. Benjamin H. Silo Jr., CSG Director; PRO3 Director PBGen. Jose S. Hidalgo Jr., PCol Relly Arnedo, PD Bulacan PPO, Bulacan Governor Daniel R Fernando and other government officials and personnel.

PGen. Acorda and the rest of the members of the inspection team checked every stall if they have the necessary permit to operate, and if they have fire protection devices such as fire extinguishers, as well as if the size, weight and brand of the items conform with the existing requirements.

Right after the inspection, a press conference was held wherein PGen Acorda emphasized that the PNP wanted to ensure that firecrackers and pyrotechnic dealers, sellers and manufacturers comply with existing laws.

He also stated that the inspection is also part of the PNP’s crackdown on sellers and manufacturers of illegal firecrackers to minimize fireworks-related injuries during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Relatedly, in response to reports that some dealers of prohibited firecrackers are selling their products online, PGen Acorda said the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group has already intensified its operations.

Meanwhile, PBGen. Hidalgo reminded the public not to patronize illegal firecrackers as it could endanger lives. He also directed all Chiefs of Police not only in Bulacan but the entire Central Luzon to strictly implement the provisions of RA 7183, ensure the filing of tight case against violators to attain conviction and closely monitor the status of the previously filed cases.
