ANGELES CITY — Residents of the city living near riverbanks and creeks have been evacuated through the order of the city government.
Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. instructed Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (ACDRRMO) Rudy Simeon to lead the said evacuation.
Mayor Lazatin said in the event of an emergency, the city government, thru the ACDRRMO, is ready to respond to any rescue, evacuation, and clearing operations.
“Mainam na maging alerto at handa po tayo, kaya pinapairal natin ang pre-emptive evacuation,” Lazatin said.
This is in line with the latest weather bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), where Angeles City was placed under Orange Warning.
According to Simeon, the ACDRRMO is closely monitoring the major river channels in Angeles City, the Abacan River and Sapang Balen Creek.
The ACDRRMO is in continuous coordination with the 33 Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils for any alerts in case of Typhoon Carina’s onslaught.
Lazatin wants to ensure everyone’s safety in the event of emergencies like strong winds toppling down certain obstructions.
Lazatin has also instructed General Services Officer Evangeline Malonzo and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Edna Duaso to ready food stockpile for the evacuees.
“Nakahanda po ang ating food assistance sa CSWDO. We have already instructed the CSWDO, and GSO to be ready in any case of assistance at the ground level,” Lazatin said.
Apart from the food assistance, necessary supplies such as hygiene kits, blankets, and mats are also prepared at the CSWDO.
The City Health Office led by Dr. Verona Guevarra was also instructed to be on standby for monitoring of the evacuees.
Mayor Lazatin wants doctors to conduct check-ups on evacuees, especially kids.
The city government already readied stockpile of food for possible evacuees, which he ordered earlier to the GSO and CSWDO.
