Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of the suspected gunman in the shooting of Provincial Legal Counsel Atty. Gerome Tubig.
The suspect was arrested in Barangay Mt. View in Mariveles, Bataan, on August 10, 2023.
In a briefing with Governor Pineda, it was confirmed that the Bataan Police reported the arrest of one Angelo Perez, a native of Bataan, who is also a suspect in the gun slaying of a Pakistani businessman and other crimes in the area.
According to Bataan police director Col. Palmer Tria, Perez was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for the frustrated murder of Tubig.
Bataan police described Perez as a gun-for-hire and drug personality in Dinalupihan, Bataan.
On April 17, 2023, Tubig was ambushed while inside this car parked in front of Makabali Hospital in the City of San Fernando. Tubig sustained several gunshot wounds in different parts of the body, which resulted in his impaired vision.
Perez, police said, was allegedly involved in the shooting and death of Imran Akhtar, 44, a Pakistani national, in May 2023.
The Pakistani was shot dead by two unidentified male suspects who pretended to be customers of the Aryan Resort in Barangay JC Payumo in Dinalupihan that Akhtar and his Filipina wife owned.
Tria said that a police team composed of members of the provincial intelligence unit, the 1st and 2nd provincial mobile force companies, the Region 3 police intelligence division, and the Mariveles municipal police station conducted the raid upon receiving information that the suspect was sighted in Mt. View.
Upon the arrest of Perez, Tria said, police recovered from his possession one sling bag containing one Shooter.45 pistol with an inserted magazine and six live ammunitions, one fragmentation grenade, and four heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, amounting to P77,244.
