Tumang eyes cityhood for Mexico town

MEXICO, Pampanga – Mayor Teddy Tumang is eyeing to pursue the cityhood of this town, which he said is overdue.

Tumang said that 3rd District Rep. Aurelio Gonzales Jr. will be working for the legislative requirements for the cityhood of the municipality.

“It has been long overdue. The cityhood will open more opportunities for Mexico town,” Tumang said.

In preparation for cityhood, Tumang is set to build a new five-storey Municipal Building and new public market to usher in much needed economic development and decongest the poblacion area from traffic.

Tumang said funds for the construction of the new municipal building has been allocated already by the local government unit amounting to P80 million.

The mayor also said that they are eyeing a 2-hectare of land for the new public market. SM will be working with the municipal government on the said project.

He said the project will kick off right after the May polls.

The mayor also reiterated that the construction of the new town hall project budget came from the internal revenue allotment of the LGU.

“Hindi po namin ilo-loan ang proyektong ito dahil may nakalaan ng budget para d’yan na galing sa ating IRA sa munisipsyo,” he stressed.

Tumang’s administration constructed the now fully operational biggest dialysis center in Pampanga with 34 dialysis machines that could accommodate patients from other towns.

Mexico town is comprised of 11,000 hectares of land and currently has an IRA amounting P.5 billion per annum.
