AC gov’t to plant more trees in Sapangbato Watershed

ANGELES CITY — Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. has ordered the planting of additional seedlings at the Sapangbato watershed during the last quarter of 2023.

This forms part of Mayor Lazatin’s massive reforestation program at the Angeles City Watershed to ensure the water supply of the future generation, recognizing the importance of water.

“We should not stop nurturing our watershed until it is fully restored and self-sustainable for the benefit of the future generation,” Mayor Lazatin Said.

The directive ensued after members of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), headed by City Engineer Donato Dizon held a meeting with Municipality of Porac Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representation (IPMR) Chairman Roman King to coordinate the upcoming tree planting activities at the Angeles City Watershed on August 1, 2023.

IPMR Chairman King, together with the IP leaders of Porac expressed their appreciation to Mayor Lazatin’s intention to rejuvenate the Angeles City Watershed and harmonize the project with the provisions of RA 8371 or the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act 1997.

Meanwhile, a season long tree-planting activity has already been plotted by Mayor Lazatin, and will start on September 1, 2023.

Tree-planting activities will be conducted by city hall employees, to be accomplished per department as scheduled during Fridays until December 1, 2023.
