Cong Bustos thanks PPC: ‘Refer to mainstream media’

CLARK FREEPORT – Confused on which news is real or fake?

Patrol Partylist Rep. Jorge Bustos has but good advice that can help against the proliferation of fake news and spurious news accounts on social media.

“Marami nakasubaybay thru media. Media is a pillar of democracy. If you want to be sure with facts, you verify, you fact check. The recourse is to check with mainstream media,” Bustos said.

Rep. Bustos served as guest at KapiHann, a media forum of the Pampanga Press Club (PPC) at Swissotel Clark in cooperation with Hann Casino Resort.

Together with son Mayor Jose Antonio “Tonton” of Masantol town, they discussed various topics that include perennial flooding, relief operations, public safety, best practices and others.

Bustos said that when in doubt if a social media post is true or not, one should be diligent and refer to established news mainstream sources.

“We are fortunate to speak before the esteemed members of PPC. May the blessing of democracy be with us so we may have a productive discussion,” he added.

He also expressed thanks to the PPC, citing them as “chroniclers and storytellers of our time.” PPC was established in 1949, even ahead of the formation of the National Press Club.

His son Mayor Tonton also thanked PPC for the opportunity to “amplify their concerns” as the town is now flooded and inundated. This was caused by recent typhoons Egay and Falcon which brought torrential rains for the past two weeks.
