MABALACAT CITY — Mayor Crisostomo Garbo wants to put up a facility in the city that will promote mental health, recognizing its impact on the overall well-being of the community.
The mayor recently instructed the City Health Office to explore ways to establish the facility, in light of the ongoing Mental Awareness Month which aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
As the focal person for health in the League of Cities of the Philippines, Mayor Garbo recognizes the importance of mental health, believing that the establishment of a mental health facility in Mabalacat City will help address the growing need for accessible mental health services since the pandemic.
“I want to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals who may be struggling with mental health issues. It will offer a range of services, including counseling, therapy, and psychiatric treatment, to help individuals manage their mental health and improve their quality of life,” Garbo said.
Mayor Garbo also emphasized the need for a holistic approach to mental health, encouraging the community to prioritize their mental well-being. He believes that by promoting mental health, the city can build a healthier and more resilient community.
The City Health Office is currently exploring possible locations and funding sources for the mental health facility. Mayor Garbo, in aiming to make mental health services more accessible to the people of Mabalacat City, hopes that this initiative will inspire other cities to prioritize mental health as well.
This move by Mayor Garbo and the City Health Office is seen as a significant step towards promoting mental health in the province.
