MABALACAT CITY – The city government here has divulged plans to renovate the city’s public market located along MacArthur highway, Barangay San Francisco here, alloting a budget of P100-200 million for the repair of the building.
This, according to Mayor Crisostomo Garbo, will accommodate more consumers and provide better service.
Based on the initial plan, the ground floor will house the wet section of the market while the 2nd floor will be allotted for the non-food items and LGU offices. The 3rd floor will be for the parking space.
A 965-square-meter lot is also being eyed for the expansion of the public market. The city’s Urban Poor Affairs Office (UPAO) are also doing the mapping to help relocate the families who currently reside in the mentioned area.
In addition to this, a solar lighting system will also be installed and used in the renovated public market to help save on electricity consumption and sustain the operation of the stores even during power interruptions.
Garbo also met with the Market Vendors Association to discuss the adjustment of the rental fees, and he reminded the members about the rules and regulations on doing business within the public market.
The renovation of the public market building is set to start around the second half of 2023.
