Notorious drug dealer nabbed in Angeles City

ANGELES CITY — A member of the dreaded “Sputnik Gang” fell into the hands of authorities following a drug sting on Sunday in Barangay Ninoy Aquino here.

Police Regional Office 3 director Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr. said a known drug trader identified only as “Amurao” was apprehended by operatives of Angeles City Police Station 6 during an entrapment operation along Interior Street in the said barangay at around 4:46 am the other day.

Amurao, a known member of the notorious “Sputnik Gang” was tagged as a “high value individual” by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency because of his involvement in the distribution of illegal drugs (shabu) in Angeles City and nearby places.

Colonel Amado Mendoza Jr., Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) director, said the arrest of Amurao was an offshoot of a month-long surveilance against the illegal activities of the suspect.

Mendoza said the suspect is included in the list of notorious drug traders who were placed under heavy surveillance by the Angeles City police because of their involvement in the illegal drug trade. 

He said some 110 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of Php750,000 were seized from the suspect after his arrest.

The suspect is currently detained at the ACPO jail after charges for violation of Section 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, commonly known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, were filed against him in court.
