Notorious thief killed in Mabalacat shootout

CAMP OLIVAS – A suspect who was involved in a series of Alfamart Store robbery incidents in Mabalacat City and nearby municipalities was killed on Friday in a shootout with cops.

Based on a report to PRO3 director Brig, Gen. Matthew Baccay, Mabalacat police chief Col. Robin King Sarmiento said suspects Jeffrey Pineda and his cohort boarded a motorcycle after the two allegedly robbed a 30-year-old woman in Mabalacat City.

Members of the Mabalacat City police spotted the suspects at the Mawaque Bridge in Bgy. Mawaque, Mabalacat City and when the cops tried to flag down the motorcycle, the suspects fired at the cops prompting them to retaliate.

Pineda was killed on the spot while his cohort eluded arrest.

Recovered from the fatality were a .38 revolver with six bullets, two plastic sachets containing marijuana leaves, two plastic sachets containing shabu and personal belongings of the victim.

Records showed that the slain suspect was previously arrested for estafa in 2018.

The prompt police response reflects the innovative effort of the Central Luzon police force to deter similar incidents in the region, Baccay said.
