SEC champions financial literacy, investor protection among Bulacan students

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) -Tarlac Extension Office successfully brought its Investor Education Roadshow to the City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan recently, gathering over 200 students from various academic institutions at the First City Providential College (FCPC).

The event welcomed participants from FCPC, La Concepcion College, and the City College of San Jose del Monte. The initiative aimed to empower students with essential financial knowledge, promote responsible investing and investor protection.

The roadshow featured insightful talks from SEC Tarlac’s resource speakers who discussed the salient features of the Revised Corporation Code, strategies on navigating smart and sustainable investment choices and a timely talk on spotting and unmasking investment scams—a growing concern for many Filipino youth.

“By understanding the law and how the SEC protects investors, young people are empowered to make informed financial decisions and contribute to a healthier economy,” SEC Tarlac Director Atty. Richard R. Laus said.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) under the SEC Communication, Advocacy, and Network (SEC-CAN) initiative. This partnership officially recognized FCPC as the first academic partner of the SEC in the province of Bulacan, solidifying its role in advancing investor education and capital market awareness.

FCPC President Dr. Estrella O. Simon expressed her appreciation for the collaboration, saying, “We are honored to be the SEC’s partner on this campaign. This partnership is a vital step in preparing our students to become financially literate and responsible contributors to society.”

With the continued rollout of its roadshows and partnerships, the SEC remains committed to fostering financial empowerment and a scam-free investing public, especially among the nation’s future professionals.
