CSF City Council urges businesses to display lanterns during ‘ber’ months

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Sangguniang Panlungsod here has approved on Monday a resolution enjoining all business establishments in the city to display lanterns every “ber” months to further promote this capital city as the Christmas Capitol of the Philippines.

Resolution No. 2022-010, sponsored by Councilor Rosemary G. Calimlim, also seeks to further assist the local lantern industry which has helped drive the city’s economic growth over the years, as well as that of the province and the whole of Central Luzon.

Under the resolution, all business establishments and major shopping malls along the major thoroughfares of the City of San Fernando, situated along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA), MacArthur Highway and along the Heritage Road, are encouraged to participate in displaying Christmas Lanterns to help local lantern makers have additional capital in their respective lantern businesses.

The resolution states that the city is “home to several generations of local lantern manufacturers who produce a wide variety of creative parols, and that they have collaborated to promote the cultural depth of lantern making”.

“… in reference to the Tourism Code of 2009 of the City of San Fernando Pampanga, the city possesses a wide economic tourism potential in which when developed creates and generates revenues specifically for local businesses, creates employment and improve basic services to the community,” the resolution said.

The Parol, according to the resolution, is “the paramount Filipino Christmas Symbol”, and through the Parul Sampernandu, the city “can never be distanced from the town which created it and what the city is known for as the ‘Christmas Capital of the Philippines’.”
